What Ozone does well
Ozone covers almost every mastering job in one plugin. The Master Assistant analyses your track and proposes a chain for a genre and loudness target, and Ozone 12's Custom Assistant lets you choose which modules it uses. Standard and Advanced open up the modules themselves, including EQ, dynamics, imaging, a maximizer and, in Ozone 12, Bass Control; Advanced adds Stem EQ (EQ a vocal, drums or bass inside a stereo mix) and Unlimiter, and lets you load modules as separate plugins. The IRC 5 maximizer mode is new in 12. Ozone Elements is the cut-down, assistant-first edition for beginners.
What Master does well
Master starts by listening. Play the loudest ten seconds and tap Listen: it measures tonal balance, loudness (ITU-R BS.1770-4), true peak, dynamics, stereo and low end against your genre and sets five moves. Tone matches the balance, Sculpt tames resonances and harshness only while they poke out (six dynamic bands that work on the whole mix, the centre or the sides), Glue controls dynamics in three bands, Width opens the image and keeps the bass mono, and Loud drives a 4x-oversampled true-peak limiter to the platform's target. Hear it on Spotify plays the master with each platform's loudness normalisation, so you don't crush a track that streaming turns down anyway. Compare is loudness-matched.
Where Ozone is stronger
- Breadth: many more modules and deeper control in Standard and Advanced.
- Stem EQ and Unlimiter in Advanced, tools Master doesn't have.
- Modules as separate plugins (Advanced) for use while mixing.
- Ecosystem: Ozone works alongside other iZotope tools and has a long track record with engineers.
Where Master is stronger
- Plain-language moves: five sections, each explaining what it changed and why.
- Hear it on Spotify: hear the platform's turn-down before you export.
- Local and explained: Listen runs on your computer with clear rules; nothing is uploaded.
- A free browser version: master a file in our online mastering tool before you buy.
- Price: €49 once, between Ozone Elements and Standard, with every preset playable on the page.

FAQ
Is Ozone 12 out, and what happened to Ozone 11?
Yes. iZotope announced Ozone 12 in September 2025, and it replaced Ozone 11 as the current version. Ozone 12 adds a Custom Assistant flow, new modules such as Stem EQ, Unlimiter and Bass Control (depending on edition) and the IRC 5 maximizer mode.
What's the difference between Ozone Elements, Standard and Advanced?
As of November 2026, Ozone 12 Elements ($55 list) is a streamlined version built around the Master Assistant; Standard ($219) opens up the editable modules, including Bass Control; Advanced ($499) adds every module, including Stem EQ and Unlimiter, and lets you load modules as separate plugins.
Is Ozone AI mastering?
Ozone's Master Assistant analyses your track and suggests a starting chain that you can then edit. Master's Listen does a similar job with fixed, explained rules and no model: it measures the mix and sets five moves locally on your computer, and every setting stays editable.
What order should a mastering chain go in?
A common order is corrective EQ, compression, tone EQ or saturation, stereo width, and a limiter last, because the limiter sets the final peak level. Master's moves run in that order: Tone, Sculpt, Glue, Width, Loud.
Can I master in my browser for free?
Yes. Our free online mastering tool runs Master's engine on your file in the browser so you can compare and preview. The full-resolution WAV and the plugin in your DAW come with Master.
